Scott Disick Admits to "A-hole" Tendencies, Couples Therapy

Oprah Winfrey interviewed Scott Disick last night. We'll give fans of the iconic talk show host a few moments to let that disturbing fact sink in...

The reality star/douchebag was rather frank about his past behavior, however, sitting alongside Kourtney Kardashian and telling viewers:

"I can't ever take back the things I've said or done to anybody. Making Kourtney cry one, two or a million times [was the most disturbing thing I've done on camera]. I'm not claiming I'm not an a--hole at all, I'm just saying, I definitely have some a--hole tendencies."

Kourtney went on to say how proud she is off Scott, how great a father he is to Mason and how therapy has helped the couple overcome its problems.

The interview, of course, was one of a number Winfrey conducted with the world's most famous/least talented family. Among other exchanges:

IVF early in life heightens breast cancer risk

Women who go opt for in vitro fertilization (IVF) early in life run a heightened risk of developing breast cancer as against women who don't undergo the treatment, findings of a new study suggest.

The findings, however, do not pose a significant increased risk and whether IVF contributed to the increased odds is also not clear, researchers clarified.

?I don?t think it's a huge increased risk that you should worry or panic (about),? study?s lead author, Louise Stewart, researcher at the University of Western Australia in Crawley said.

The study
For the new study, researchers at the University of Western Australia in Crawley collected information on 21,025 women between the ages of 20 and 40 years. All participants had gone through fertility treatments at the hospitals of Western Australia between 1983 and 2002.

The participants were tracked for a period of 16 years to see if they developed breast cancer.
Nearly 13,644 women took fertility drugs without IVF.

While 1.7 percent of the women who only had fertility drugs without IVF developed breast cancer by the end of the study, about 2 percent women who got fertility drugs and IVF developed breast cancer, researchers highlighted.
The risk, researchers highlighted, was not significant at all.

For the second phase, researchers divided the women into two different age groups; women who started taking fertility drugs before their 24th birthday and later opted for IVF and women who took fertility treatment at about 40 years, regardless of whether they had IVF or not

Researchers found that women in the first group were 56 percent more likely to develop breast cancer as against counterparts who only went through fertility treatments without IVF.

However, there was no increased risk of developing breast cancer among women who started fertility treatments only when they were about 40 years old, regardless of whether they ended up having IVF or not.

?The development of breast cancer is linked to estrogen exposure and the longer one is exposed, the greater the risk,? said Dr. Linda Giudice, president-elect of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine.

?In an IVF cycle, there is a short, but significant elevation in circulating estrogen, and whether this is linked to the observations found in this study is not clear at this time,? Giudice said.

The findings of the study are published in the journal Fertility and Sterility.

From the Editor's Desk: When your phone can't do a damn thing to help ...

When your fair city finds itself getting more than a foot of rain in less than a day, there's no escaping that sense of helplessness. There's not a damn thing you can do, and that's not exactly the sort of thing you can prepare for. Even the hurricanes I've been through haven't dumped that much rain. (Or if they did, the wind kept it moving enough so that the standing water didn't overtake things.)

And unlike during a hurricane, my phone wasn't much of a help. See, in a hurricane, the power and cable often are the first to go, meaning you'll be relying on mobile communications for as long as they'll last. (And since the awful hurricane seasons of 2004 and 2005, the carriers have been quick to tell us all about the improvements they've made to their backup systems.) But during Saturday's rain, I had power. I had Internet. And so I sat here, at my desk, keeping up on where the worst flooding was, what the radar was like, and what the next 24 hours was going to bring. (Hint: More rain.) That's not to say it's not important to have a phone around for emergencies, it's just that in this case, when we weren't exactly in imminent danger, there just wasn't much use for it. It was an odd feeling.

We'll talk some more about this later this week, but I'd urge everyone to think about their phones and tablets and how they can help get you through those days when Mother Nature decides to be a real bitch. 

Oh, look. It's starting to pour again.
